The Elder Financial Safety Center located in Dallas, Texas, is the first of its kind center in the nation and leaders in the financial protection and prevention of exploitation of older adults. Established in May 2014, the collaborative partnership made up of The Senior Source, Dallas County Probate Courts, and District Attorney’s Office offers prevention, protection and prosecution services. These services focus on all aspects of older adults’ financial security. Whether experiencing a financial crisis, recognizing the need to increase income or decrease expenses, or suspect a scam or exploitation has occurred, the Elder Financial Safety Center is a one-stop specifically for those over 50.
The Senior Source is the lead agency for the Elder Financial Safety Center collaboration offering comprehensive prevention services. Since 1961, The Senior Source has served greater Dallas as the go-to nonprofit for aging services. Supportive financial services including financial coaching, insurance counseling, money management, benefits assistance, debt counseling, employment assistance, and more are services supported by The Senior Source. The Mission of The Senior Source is to enhance the overall quality of life and empower ALL older adults in greater Dallas to THRIVE.
The Dallas County Probate Courts provide many valuable services to the community. As a center partner, Dallas County Probate Courts offer the protection services of the center ensuring the most vulnerable older adults in Dallas are protected when guardianship becomes necessary. The Dallas County Probate Courts strive to protect all individuals who need guardianship services or are currently in a guardianship relationship. Dallas County Court Investigators ensure all those under guardianship live life to the fullest with dignity and are financially, physically and mentally safe.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office serves as an advocate for older adults who become a victim of financial crime. The DA’s office takes these crimes seriously and pursues justice thoroughly and vigorously on behalf of its victims. As a collaborative partner with the Elder Financial Safety Center, the District Attorney’s Office also trains law enforcement to identify and report financial crimes against older adults.
One of the roles of the District Attorney’s Office as a collaborative partner is to advocate for older adults by training law enforcement on how to identify financial crimes and report those crimes to the DA’s Office.
